New Outdoor Learning Center for First Baptist Church of South Boston, VA

Maplehurst Outdoor Living is proud to announce the completion of a brand-new outdoor learning center at First Baptist Church of South Boston, VA, designed to enrich the experience of children participating in the church’s children's programs. 

This thoughtfully designed space was created to connect children with nature through hands-on learning, play, and exploration. The project includes an outdoor amphitheater, paver performance area, interactive waterfall, sand play zone, and newly installed shade sails — all carefully planned to provide a safe, engaging environment for outdoor programming. 

The intention of the learning center was to give children tangible features they could interact with, creating opportunities to learn about the natural world in a fun, memorable way. The tiered amphitheater provides ample seating directing focus towards the paver performance area, which is ideal for teaching and activities. The water feature allows children to engage with running water and natural stone elements. A sand box encourages creative, sensory play, while the perimeter fencing ensures a safe, secure environment.  

The recent addition of expansive shade sails helps keep the area cool during warmer months and extends the outdoor season for the church’s children's programs, offering both comfort and UV protection.
